Canoe2, a busy local Canoe Hire Company is based at the Boathouse within the Rushden Lakes development and requires new team members for the 2026 season.  These new team members will play a central role in helping us offer an exciting one stop shop for paddling adventures to a huge audience.  This will include us providing:

  • Canoe & Kayak Hire on the River Nene
  • Short term craft hire on the lake
  • Stand Up Paddle Board Centre Tuition/hire/shop
  • Paddle Team Events
  • Meeting Room Hire

 

Position Description

Job Title: Team Hand (Part Time)

Job Summary: To assist with the day to day running of boat hire services on the lake and river, creating an enjoyable and memorable experience and delivering excellent customer service. 

Estimated Start Date: June through to season end (30th September) 

Remuneration:   dependent upon age, experience and any paddlesport qualifications held.

Main Activities:

  • Maintain high quality standards of operation/equipment cleanliness.
  • Supplying customers with safety and all other kit.
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment and craft.
  • Assisting customers when they start and end their experience.
  • Ensure all returned equipment is clean and ready for the next customer.
  • General site duties (sweeping, mopping, sorting equipment, cleaning and tidying up).
  • Assist with setting up hire craft and equipment at the start of the day and clearing away at the close.

 

Special Conditions:

  • Arrangement of working hours will need to be in keeping with the operational and business requirements of Canoe2.
  • Working hours will mainly be at weekends and during school/bank holidays and some evenings as well.
  • Please note, leave will be restricted during the peak summer holiday season.              
  • Occasionally, training and meetings will be organised outside normal working hours. The post holder will be expected to attend whenever practicably possible.
  • The reputation of Canoe2 is extremely important. It is a condition of employment that, whether inside or outside of working hours, the post holder upholds this reputation by positively promoting Canoe2.

Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Paddle sport experience and Paddlesport qualifications are of benefit though not essential.

Work Experience:

  • No previous experience of this industry is necessary as full training will be given.

 Key Role requirements:

  • This is a very physical role, so you need to have a good level of physical health and fitness.
  • Summer School Holiday availability is essential. If you plan to travel for a summer holiday during the school summer holiday, then this position will not be suitable for you.
  • Total reliability and trustworthy.
  • Must be able to work at weekends/bank holidays and consider these as normal working days.
  • Be a confident swimmer and confident around water.
