Canoe2 Short Break Trips

Paddle with “Champing” at All Saints Church, Aldwincle

Canoe2 is delighted to offer a canoeing 2-day paddle on a lovely stretch of the River Nene with two route options available. This challenging trip includes your overnight “Champing” stay in Aldwincle, breakfast, baggage transfer to and from the church, as well as transport back to your start point.

You can have a longer, very challenging and rewarding, Rushden Lakes to Oundle route. This is because of the long distance on the day, the backwater at Harper’s Brook, and some trickier locks to pass. Definitely NOT a trip for first time paddlers, or those taking children but great for adults wanting to have a bit of fun.

Meet us at Rushden Lakes at 9.00am, and set off after your briefings and lots of good advice. A very challenging first day with 14 miles of river, and passing 7 locks with your canoe, isn’t for the faint-hearted. Finishing off with a short paddle on Harper’s Brook before coming off to walk up to the church

An alternative route, Thrapston to Oundle, shorter, but still fairly challenging & rewarding in other ways, with trickier locks to pass and exploring the backwater, Harper’s Brook. Can be quite challenging if you’ve not paddled before.  Lovely option for families with younger children that have perhaps paddled once or twice before, or anybody looking for less time on the water combined with truly unique accommodation.

Meet us on day one, at 9.30am, at Thrapston Nine-Arches Bridge and enjoy a great 4-mile paddle to then explore Wadenhoe & Aldwincle at your leisure, perhaps lunching at the idyllic riverside pub “The King’s Head”, before wandering back to the church.

It’s then around a 30-minute walk up to All Saints “Champing” church, exclusively yours for the night.

After your unique overnight stay in the church, breakfast will be delivered before you set off on your paddle for day two, a much shorter paddle of just 4-miles to Oundle Mill for collection from Oundle Mill and transport back to Rushden Lakes by road.

This is a great couple of days for anybody looking for a good long physical day, with lots of fresh air, who is also hoping for a more leisurely short paddle on the second day.

Your river trip package includes transport back at end of your trip, and baggage transfer.

Own Tent Camping Paddling Trip

A wonderful two days on the river, with two possible start points. Choose from a longer, more challenging first day, or a shorter and easier option. The second day is always nice and easy.

This canoe camping trip includes two nights camping, so you can set up camp the night before your paddle begins. Meaning you won’t need to pack your tent and gear into your canoe, and when you get to the campsite you are all good to go.

The more challenging first day option, starting at Rushden Lakes, with a 14-mile paddle to your camp location at Wadenhoe, passing 7 locks with your canoe, this isn’t for the faint-hearted. Alternatively, start at Thrapston Nine Arches Bridge for the far shorter 4-mile paddle option to the campsite.

Either way, you’ll be back at the peaceful camp location at Wadenhoe with beautiful views over The Nene Valley, and just a 20-minute walk (or 10-minute paddle) to the idyllic riverside pub, The King’s Head.

The second day is pretty short with just a couple of hours on the water. Also good for a slow, relaxed start and a short paddle on your second day. Includes transport back at end of your trip, and your camping pitch fees for both nights.
