PEDALOS & KATAKANU AGE RESTRICTIONS:

  1. The Hirer must be aged at least 18 years
  2. There must be at least 1 adult aged 18+ in each craft (including the hirer)
  3. Pregnant persons may not participate
  4. Minimum children’s age allowed on a Pedalo is 3 years
  5. Minimum children’s age allowed on a Katakanu is 4 years
  6. Maximum number of participants allowed on pedalo is 4, though a 5th is allowed if the extra person is aged 3 to 9
  7. Maximum number of participants allowed on katakanu is 6
  8. No pets allowed

STAND-UP-PADDLEBOARDING (SUP) AGE RESTRICTIONS and additional essential info for river trips:

  1. To place a SUP hire booking you must be aged at least 21, and you must be participating in the activity with your group.
  2. All participants must have some prior experience and be water confident.
  3. Pregnant persons may not participate.
  4. Only one person allowed per board.
  5. Absolute minimum age to participate is strictly 13 years.
  6. Buoyancy Aids are supplied, and are compulsory
  7. 18-stone maximum capacity weight limit applies to the SUP boards.
  8. No pets allowed.

  10. LOCKS: Locks control the The River Nene, making it a very gentle river. They also make picturesque spots to stop for a snack. Please be aware that some physical exertion is required to move your paddleboard & equipment by a lock.
  11. Any doubts, call 01933 522 223. Or if you’d rather just get it booked now, don’t worry – If it’s not quite right, we’ll give you a call after we receive your booking and sort it out with you – No drama!

  1. To place a Canoe or Kayak booking you must be aged at least 18.
  2. There must be an adult aged 18 or over in each craft.
  3. Pregnant persons may not participate.
  4. Absolute minimum age to participate is strictly 5 years.
  5. If only one adult in group, minimum child age increases to 8 years.
  6. 4-person canoes DON’T work for 4 adults. They DO WORK for 2 adults with 2 children aged 5-10

  8. Dogs often allowed in canoes, but please ask for advice first. Not allowed in kayaks.
  9. LOCKS: Locks control the The River Nene, making it a very gentle river. They also make picturesque spots to stop for a snack. Please be aware that some physical exertion is required to move your craft by a lock, or onto pretty backwaters. It’s not excessive, and we do provide little portage trolleys for moving craft on land.

Canoe2 TERMS & CONDITIONS – UPDATED 04/05/2023

Booking & Refund Policy:

  1. A 50% booking deposit will be required at the time of booking, and may be paid by Credit Card, Debit Card or PayPal. This booking deposit is non-refundable, except as per clause 4. below.
  2. The balance will be payable by Credit Card or Debit Card at least 14 days before your trip, and is also non-refundable, except as per clause 4. below.
  3. Some special promotions, or limited availability trips will require payment in full at the time of booking with the full payment being non-refundable, except as per clause 4 below.
  4. Hire on the day is subject to safe river and weather conditions. If, BEFORE YOUR TRIP BEGINS, a postponement of your hire is deemed necessary by the River Nene Canoe Hire Co. Ltd. due to unsafe river or weather conditions, we will give you as much notice as possible and we will offer you alternative dates. Under these circumstances only, and if no convenient alternative date can be agreed, any monies paid will be fully refunded.
  5. Stand-Up-Paddleboard hire is subject to all participants having tried SUP before, that they are all able to stand, and also recover from a fall. If, on the day of hire, it is deemed by management that anybody in the group does not show such confidence, for their own safety we will be forced to cancel hire. Under these circumstances, payment will be refunded. The management’s decision will be final.
  6. Once a trip begins, no refunds will be made, regardless of any change in conditions.
  7. Changes to a booking will only be accepted from the original booking contact (the “designated responsible adult“), and if multiple changes are required, Canoe2 asserts the right to make an administrative charge of £10 per change (at our discretion). The designated responsible adult will also be responsible for making all payments to Canoe2, as well as other responsibilities as mentioned within our general terms & conditions.
  8. It is extremely important to arrive by the time shown on your booking confirmation form. If late, it is very likely that other fellow paddlers will be delayed by you. Therefore, it may be necessary to leave without you and you may lose your payment.
  9. Gift Vouchers must be paid for in full by credit card, debit card, or PayPal, and payments are non-refundable.
  10. Gift Vouchers are valid for 2 years from date of purchase. Lower denomination vouchers, or change, will not be given (though with our new e-vouchers, any leftover credit may be used another time).
  11. When booking using our older, paper Gift Vouchers, we strongly advise that you bring your vouchers in to our shop at The Boathouse at Rushden Lakes, BEFORE the day of your trip.
  12. If not supplied previously, paper Gift Vouchers used to book river trips MUST be handed in on day of your trip. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN BEING TURNED AWAY, OR YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY AGAIN BY CREDIT/DEBIT CARD BEFORE TAKING PART (refundable upon later submission of your vouchers to Canoe2, subject to an administration charge of £10 per booking)
  13. Gift Vouchers are valid for all Canoe2 craft hire, short breaks, canoe/kayak lessons and in-store retail, but NOT valid to use towards online retail or stand-up-paddleboard TUITION.
  14. Coronavirus, Covid-19. Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, Covid-19, and related government restrictions, you may postpone any 2023 Canoe2 canoe hire trip for any reason related to Coronavirus, Covid-19. You may postpone at any time, right up to the start day & time of your trip. You may postpone as many times as necessary in 2023, or into the 2024 season.

General Terms and Conditions

  1. When hiring canoe or kayak, anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult in their canoe or kayak.
  2. When hiring stand-up-paddleboards, there must be at least one participant aged 21 or over in the group.
  3. No children under 5 years of age allowed in our canoes & kayaks. Please also be aware that, regardless of age, if children are too small to be adequately protected by our child buoyancy aids, they will not be allowed to participate. The final decision is ours.
  4. No children under 13 years of age allowed on our stand-up-paddleboards.
  5. Single person bookings are not advised. However, please call to discuss if you feel you have appropriate experience.
  6. Pregnant persons may not take part.
  7. All participants must wear a buoyancy aid at all times whilst on the water
  8. Alcohol is not permitted.
  9. Anyone who appears under the influence of drink or drugs will not be allowed on our craft. The final decision is ours.
  10. The person that booked the trip (the “designated responsible adult“) must agree to these terms & conditions and must ensure that all of the party are aware of them.
  11. The designated responsible adult must show Photo-ID, in the form of either a passport or driving license on the day of hire.
  12. All customers aged 18 or over will have to sign our hire agreement upon arrival, or they will not be allowed to use our craft.
  13. Where “Baggage Transfer” is included in your booking, we must apply reasonable limits. Thinking in airplane terms, please restrict your baggage to an equivalent to two pieces of hand luggage per person. So, perhaps two holdalls or small backpacks, or replace one bag with a typically sized cool box. If you exceed this limit, we reserve the right to make a charge of £10 per additional bag/container per transfer.
  14. Be considerate to all other river users e.g. fellow canoeists, powered boats and fishermen.
  15. Only land at designated landing areas.
  16. Dogs are welcome in our canoes (out-n-back trips only, not on trips that include road transport back).  Dogs are not allowed in kayaks or on stand-up-paddleboards. Dog buoyancy aids will not be provided.
  17. Take care of all equipment. Any loss or breakage will have to be paid for, unless by fair wear and tear.
  18. No Fishing allowed unless with the appropriate licence.
  19. Late return policy – £20 per hour, per canoe, kayak or SUP paddleboard will be charged for late return of canoes & equipment.
  20. Canoe2 cannot be held responsible for the actions of its suppliers (including, but not limited to, providers of tuition, training, coaching, food, transport, and accommodation).
  21. Canoe2 cannot be held responsible for the actions of referred or recommended third party providers (including, but not limited to, providers of tuition, training, coaching, food, transport, and accommodation).
  22. DISCLAIMER. The River Nene Canoe Hire Co Ltd. will not be liable for any death, personal injury, or loss of or damage to goods arising out of the hire of any items by them unless that death, personal injury or loss of, or damage to the goods arises directly from an act of omission on the part of the company, its servant or agent.
  23. The River Nene Canoe Hire Co Ltd does not have any responsibility whatsoever for loss or damage to your personal belongings. You should be aware that any water-resistant containers supplied by us are not guaranteed to be water proof and therefore you should not rely on the water-resistant containers that we supply to keep your property dry, and you accept that you are taking your personal property on to the river at your own risk.
  24. (Camping) For many groups requiring bell tents, yurts, tipis, or shepherds’ huts, a security deposit of £500 will be payable before the commencement of your river trip. Should any loss or damage of camping equipment occur during your hire, then this security deposit will be used in part or in full to cover any loss incurred by the River Nene Canoe Hire Co. Ltd. If damage or loss amounts to more than the security deposit taken, we reserve the right to recover additional monies. Unused security deposits will be returned within 14 days of the end of the hire period.
  25. (Camping) Parties must abide by the rules of the campsite on which they are staying.
  26. (Camping) Dogs should be under control and must not worry livestock.
  27. (Camping) Close gates, respect trees and hedgerows, leave no litter, start fire only in raised metal fire pit provided.
  28. (Camping) Chinese Lanterns are not allowed.
  29. (Camping) The hirer must appoint a single person, not under the influence of alcohol or drugs who will be responsible for the safe use of any fire pit/stove/fire, and extinguishing it fully before the location is vacated at the end of the hire period.

Clients booking by telephone will be deemed to have read and accepted these terms and conditions. We reserve the right to make amendments to these Terms and Conditions without notice. The full and latest version of our Terms and Conditions are on our website.

Canoe2 is the trading name of the River Nene Canoe Hire co. Ltd

Canoe2 Pedalo & Katakanu Hire Terms:

  1. You (the “HIRER”) must be aged 18 or over to place a booking.
  2. As the responsible person, you will personally be present on the craft, and you will be responsible for any children and other adults on the craft. Groups will not be allowed to embark without you, the responsible adult (the “HIRER“).
  3. Minimum children’s age allowed on a Pedalo is 3 years.
  4. Minimum children’s age allowed on a Katakanu is 4 years.
  5. Maximum number of participants allowed on pedalo is 4, though a 5th is allowed if the extra person is aged 3 to 9.
  6. Maximum number of participants allowed on katakanu is 6.
  7. You, the HIRER confirm that all participants in your group are over the relevant minimum age for your hire craft, and that no more than the maximum number of participants will be on the craft.
  8. Please be aware that, regardless of age, if children are too small to be adequately protected by our child buoyancy aids, they will not be allowed to participate. The final decision is ours.
  9. Pregnant persons may not take part.
  10. All Participants MUST wear the provided buoyancy aids.
  11. Hirer’s are responsible for the safe and reasonable use of the craft.
  12. All craft are hired at HIRER’S risk and responsibility for damage done to craft or property during hire, however caused, is at HIRER’S risk. HIRER’S must notify us immediately of any damage or loss of craft or equipment. Craft must not be left unattended.
  13. Craft returned late will be charged for the duration of the hire. Craft more than 30 minutes late are deemed stolen unless you notify Canoe2 staff of your difficulty and whereabouts.
  14. The payment of the charges for the hire and acceptance of a booking ticket or token is deemed as acknowledgement & acceptance of these and any other terms of business which may be displayed in or around The Boathouse premises.
  15. Expenses incurred for collection of craft not returned to the boathouse will be chargeable, including loss of hire.
  16. Craft returned unfit for re-hire (i.e. very muddy and dirty) are subject to a cleaning charge min £5 max of £15.
  17. CCTV is in operation in and around The Canoe2 Boathouse for security purposes.
  18. Early finishes are not eligible for any part or whole refund.
  19. No Alcohol is to be taken afloat and Canoe2 reserve the right to refuse hire if they suspect clients are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  20. Disclaimer.   22. ADDITIONAL COVID-19 SECURE PROCEDURES – Safer: For You, For Us, For Everyone… … PLEASE NOTE: These COVID-19 Secure Procedures were in place throughout our 2020, 2021 & 2022 seasons. Government guidance combined with Canoe2’s own risk assessments will determine to what extent these procedures continue for 2023:
  1. Contactless check-in
  2. Canoe2 operates strict distancing & sanitising procedures and require that you do the same whilst with us.
  3. All equipment & craft touch-points are cleaned between every hire
  4. Please follow all verbal & signage instructions on site
  5. We reserve the right to ask you to leave if distancing & sanitising requests are not followed. Under these circumstances refunds will not be available.
