Brief Background & History

The Chester House Estate is a nationally significant heritage site, being one of the few places in the country which can demonstrate over 10,000 years of human activity. The site was established in 8,000 BC and was opened as a heritage visitor attraction in October 2021.

When you arrive at Chester House, moor up at the pontoon and head up to explore the site. Our Chester House Estate “Paddle-Out-&-Back” trip starts at 10.30am, and most paddlers arrive Chester House around 12.00/12.30pm. Then depart in time to arrive back at Rushden Lakes for 4pm-4.30pm.

Upcoming Events at Chester House

Chester House is a free-to-enter heritage visitor attraction, with plenty to do and explore.  There are also a number of Special Event Days.  Whilst many are free to enter and enjoy, there are some events that have an entry fee and some which require booking. To find out more, visit The Chester House Estate website.

When booking your canoe trip to Chester House & Back please note that it does not include the entry fee for any special events.

If you plan to travel to Chester House for any of these events via canoe paddling, we would recommend contacting us first just to double check timings. Our Chester House Estate Paddle Out & Back trip starts at 10.30, and most paddlers arrive around 12.00/12.30pm. Then depart in time to arrive back at Rushden Lakes for 4pm-4.30pm. This should aid you in planning your day out.
