Richard & Ian very much hope that these pages give you a good idea of the various trips offered by Canoe2. But really, there’s no substitute for giving us a call and having a chat. We can talk over the various abilities in your group, the type of accommodation you prefer, and anything that might be important to you. That way, we can recommend the best trip for you. Or if you prefer just drop us an email.

Why Paddle out and back to The Boathouse at Rushden Lakes? This paddle is the exception to the rule, in that there is no transport offered. You paddle out from The Boathouse, across our lake, portage across to the river, and explore. Then you’ll turn around and come back.

Make the most of our fab start/end point at Rushden Lakes Boathouse with this full day paddle. Head out across our lake, and head out on the river for the day, upstream passing by Chester Farm and on to Wellingborough Embankment & beyond, or head downstream to Stanwick Lakes, exploring the lovely backwater. When you get back to The Boathouse at the end of your day, you might choose to pop in to your favourite lakeside cafe or restaurant for a drink and a bite to eat.

If considering this full day “paddle-out-and-back” we’d recommend also taking a look at our two other full day paddles. The other two options involve only paddling downstream, and include pick-up at end of your day, so you see more river in your day. Be sure to take a look at “Rushden Lakes to Thrapston” (with lovely tea room en-route) and “Thrapston to Oundle” (choice of tea room or a truly idyllic riverside pub for lunch)

Locks:The locks along the river make great rest points, many being very picturesque. Access to and from the river either side of the locks is generally via portage platforms (low level platforms either side of the locks). Where portages are not available, access varies but is typically via boat moorings or low level floating pontoons. We also supply, included in the price of your package, great little canoe “trolleys”, so you can choose whether to carry, or simply wheel your canoe past the locks.
